Why our deck & fence staining holds up
Deck and fence staining in Georgia is mostly a prep job. Our deck and fence staining process always starts with a thorough wash and brightener, sanding rough boards and railings, and stripping failed previous coatings when needed — only then do we apply two coats of premium semi-transparent or solid stain.
Why deck prep matters more than the stain itself
A premium stain on a poorly prepped deck will fail in a single season. We always start deck and fence staining with a thorough pressure wash, brightener (oxalic acid wash) to neutralize tannins and open the grain, sanding of rough boards and railings, and stripping any failed previous coatings. Only after the wood is clean, sanded, and open do we apply the new stain.
Semi-transparent, semi-solid, and solid stain — picking the right one
Semi-transparent stains let the wood grain show through, give 2–3 years of life in Georgia, and are easy to recoat. Semi-solid stains hide more of the grain, last 3–5 years, and are a great pick for older decks where the wood color is uneven. Solid stains hide the grain entirely, last 5–7 years, and behave more like a paint — good for fences and decks where appearance matters more than wood character. We bring samples and put them on your actual deck before you commit.

Frequently asked questions
What clients say
"April Painting repainted our entire downstairs and the prep work was incredible. No drips, sharp lines, and they cleaned up perfectly every night. We've already booked them for the cabinets."
"After two bad experiences with other painters, April was a breath of fresh air. Clear quote, professional crew, and the house looks brand new. Highly recommend."
"Our 1995 oak cabinets look factory-new. They sprayed off-site, kept the kitchen useable most of the week, and the finish is flawless. Saved us tens of thousands vs. replacing."
