Wallpaper removal almost always reveals something — old glue, torn drywall paper, or hairline cracks. Our wallpaper removal process scores, steams, and strips the paper, removes 100% of the paste with a hot-water wash, skim coats where the wall is damaged, sands smooth, and primes — so when paint goes on, the wall looks like wallpaper was never there.
What's under your wallpaper (and why it matters)
Most homes built before the late 1990s have wallpaper installed directly over unprimed drywall paper or older plaster. Removing it without damaging the underlying wall takes patience: score, steam, strip, then a full hot-water wash to remove every trace of paste. We always skim coat any drywall paper that tore during removal, sand the wall smooth, and prime with a wallpaper-paste-blocking primer before any color goes on.
Skipping the paste removal is the most common failure we see when other contractors repaint over old wallpaper — within months the new paint starts bubbling and peeling. We don't skip it.
